AKA how I got invaluable hands on branding experience working with real clients, discovered myself through my mentors, and made some incredible friends.
Railyard Lab is a student design group run by the branding and packaging company behind the Mikes Hard Lemonade and the Little Potato Company brands. This paid internship targets startups and non-profits, and encourages business and design students to collaborate.
Patrick Ho is Dossier's lead content strategist and my mentor. It was a perfect match - we shared a love for synonyms, traveling, and a well poured Guinness. But more importantly, thanks to Pat, I was able to discover my core design passions: Copywriting and Content Design. Likewise Ronna Chisholm, one of Dossiers co-founders, inspired me to pursue my dreams of Art Directing and becoming a project lead in the future.
Internships are invaluable, I learned more in my four months here than I do in a whole semester. Client presentations and interactions, balancing team dynamics, the incredible convincing power of applying branding to collatoral (as seen in the images below), and creating styleguides even non-designers can follow - these are things that a classroom simply can't teach.
