IBM Canada

Internship || Contract || Spring 2022 - Fall 2023 || Some Material Under NDA

My time at the Toronto studio focused on creating a new compliance AI product to pitch to IBM Executives, and advocating for a stronger Design presence in the Hyper Blue internal start-ups.

My Role and Responsibilities

One 3-Month Design Sprint

As the sole designer on an Area 631 team, I invented a compliance AI product that went on to become an IBM funded start-up. I successfully pitched the project to IBM Executives alongside a team of 5 developers.

Four Brand Identities

Created 2 new brand identities and refreshed 2 others for 4 internal AI different start-ups. All of these were in line with the Carbon Design System, but also pushed the boundaries of those rules to stand out competitively.

Two Studio-Wide Releases

Made video and print content for studio-wide release—including an event for the Executive of IBM Design, Katrina Alcorn. Second release was a series of interviews with Toronto Designers to rekindle a bit of community while working remotely during the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Above is an application of the branding I did for Conveyor AI! Now a winner of a 2023 Red Dot Award under Brand & Communications.

A team of 6 are given a problem, a client, and 3 months to design and build 1 working prototype.

From Prototype to Start-up: Conclude.ai

My Area 631 project and pitch completed in July of 2021, but the project is slated to launch in 2023. Unfortunately, that means pending patents prevent me from speaking about product details. However, if you’d like to know more feel free to get in contact with me and I’ll be happy to walk through the pitch deck and early prototype! Or read about my experience in the Area631 program in a Medium article I wrote on the topic.

I’m grateful for the peers and mentors that helped along the way at IBM, and I’m looking forward to seeing these products grow!
